Who is JCI Kelowna?

JCI Kelowna, affiliated with Junior Chamber International (JCI), has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1935. It's recognized as one of Kelowna’s premier community service groups, offering opportunities for young people to grow personally and professionally while contributing positively to their community. Over the decades, JCI Kelowna has been a dynamic platform for thousands of young men and women, fostering leadership and community service.

The roots of JCI Kelowna can be traced back to the Great Depression era, around 1936, when Dick Parkinson founded the Kelowna Junior Board of Trade, the precursor to today's JCI Kelowna. This organization was started as a protest to the inaction of older businessmen in town, tackling early projects such as house numbering and mapping city streets, encouraging sports, and advocating for more playing fields and parks. A significant focus of their efforts was improving access across Okanagan Lake, leading to the development of the Naramata Road, a project that showcased the community's determination to make Kelowna more accessible. Dick Parkinson's leadership and vision for the community extended into his later roles as city councilor and mayor, where he continued to champion the growth and development of Kelowna.

JCI Kelowna offers development opportunities in leadership, social responsibility, entrepreneurship, and fellowship for individuals aged 18-40. It's part of a global network that aims to create positive changes and influence within communities. The organization continues to make history, with notable milestones such as the election of its first female president, demonstrating its evolving and inclusive nature.

For those interested in contributing to their community while developing personal and professional skills, JCI Kelowna holds monthly meetings, social and fun events and welcomes new members to join
